Old Friend’s Website

Well, it’s been a while since I’ve gone looking about online for people and things I know. I googled my old friend Mike and look what I found; his really professional DJ promo site, under his DJ name, DJ Deko-ze.

We haven’t been in touch for almost a year now, which isn’t too unusual; we do manage to touch base every once in a while, but both of us are busy, and I think he’s even busier than I am.

Those of you who know me well probably marvel at the fact that we have anything in common; he’s a DJ and loves the party scene, he talks openly about being gay, and he actually let someone take a picture of him covered in white tribal paint (as you can see in the photo on the opening page of his website). Meanwhile, I’m a bookish, somewhat uptight, helplessly straight geek.

But we bonded our friendship in high school; I guess when you are younger, you’re very different, and I think I was more defiant then, and he—having not come out yet—was much less so, much more supportive and calm and quietly serious. But whenever I see him, it’s like we pick up where we left off. Makes me think that there’s some part of us that keeps alive we were at different points of our history, little things like a penchant for snide comments or a certain kind of habitual laugh we’ve since suppressed.

Anyway, if you want to know what’s become of this friend of mine, as he’s built a big career as a DJ, follow the link above. It’s a good website.
