Hi Gordsellar,

Ok, I tried it again with a link right in the post this time. When I re-save the post, I get the following message: “Ping ‘http://www.gordsellar.com/2005/11/15/mind-control-101/trackback/’ failed: We already have a ping from that URI for this post.”

Strange, huh? I also use Movable Type and trackbacks generally work on blogs where they are turned on or accepted by the user. Hmm.

Well, here’s the site I tried to trackback too anyway. Not exactly the same subject, but it does have to do with trying to win the hearts and minds of the ESL student on the first day of class.

You would need to link to my site from within a post, or to add the link to an already-published post and republish it. I couldn’t find either on your site, so I’m unable to find out how Trackback is malfunctioning on my own site. Could you show me the post you wrote linking to my page? I have gotten it to work with Movable Type, for example #3 above is a trackback.

Signed up for your blog today and spent some time looking around. Your posts are certainly very thought-provocative.

Like ESL Geek and several others, I’ve also tried to trackback this article (and the post before this one) to my own blog but got the old “forbidden” ping messages both times. I’ll check back later. I’m using Movable Type, by the way, so I’ll see if it the autodiscover function picks up the hyperlink I just left.

Wow. I’ve never actually read that book, but it doesn’t surprise me. Funny, though; I would never have thought his book was as simple and straightforward as that. Well, now I guess I don’t need to read it! :) (I wasn’t planning on doing so in any case.)

All very sound advice and something I absolutely agree with. Interestingly I just finished reading Dale Carnegies How to Win Friends and Influence People and much of what he says could be summarized down to what you said as well.
