오예, 베?´ë¹„!

The title of this post is “Oh Yeah Baby!” written in Korean. It’s something I once taught some kids at one of those camps I used to work every summer and winter in Jeonju. Hearing tons of kids laughing and teasing one another on the bus and then following up with, “오예, ë² ì?´ë¹„!” — in fact they were saying it in English but with the cutest little accents — brought me such joy.

It’s a happiness comparable to what I feel right now, having just heard that it’s very likely I will, in fact, be able to attend the Clarion West Workshop in Seattle. I’ll be in Seattle on the 17th or 18th — preferably the former — and will remain till the end of the Workshop on July 28th. Then I’ll quickly proceed to Australia for a wedding and perhaps a quick visit to some friends who may be there at the time, and then I’ll be back in Korea again, prepping materials for the fall semester and trying to get some more writing done. I am extremely excited and very happy about this.

(It looked as if the scheduling was going to pose a problem, given that the 17th of June comes a full 5 days before the official end of the semester, but an inquiry to Academic Affairs brought me back a pretty positive response. Now I just have to submit a plan showing I can in fact discharge all of my teaching duties within the semester while leaving at that time, and I should be able to get approval. It’s very good news.)

So Clarion West 2006, here I come.
