Not the we-give-you-money-because-you’re-the-most-deserving-zombie kind, but rather the scholarly-work-in-the-subject kind. There’s a call for essays on scholarly perspectives on the zombie for an anthology. I’m thinking I know a few people who might be interested. (Yeah, Ben, I thinking of you, even if you’re not a litcrit guy, as it’s interdisciplinary and all that. Though “paraconsistent logic + zombies” might be a harder fit for a scholarly essay than for a short story, one of the editors is a philosophy prof!) More details in the extended post.
Call for Papers: An Interdisciplinary Collection of Essays on the Zombie
We are seeking proposals for an interdisciplinary edited volume discussing the zombie from a wide variety of perspectives and within a wide range of contexts. We encourage submissions from any discipline, including but not limited to English literature, film studies, media studies, cultural studies, gender studies, queer studies, philosophy, religious studies, anthropology, sociology, history, psychology, economics, and political science. We especially welcome new approaches to the study of zombies. In addition to theoretical essays on zombies, we also welcome critical discussions of specific zombie films, novels, and graphic novels, including those both pre- and post-Romero.
Proposals should be between 200 and 300 words. Authors are asked to include brief biographical details along with their submissions, including name and academic affiliation. Please submit proposals either electronically or by regular mail. Deadline for submissions is October 31st, 2008. Submit to either:

I’m thinking of knocking together a proposal on… well, that’s for me to know, and you to wonder about. Probably forever, for I’ll have little to say if they’re not interested, but if it gets accepted, I’ll post a little about it here as I draft the thing… We’ll see, but Oct. 31st is the deadline, and that’s a long ways away. I should at least have time for a 300 word proposal!
