I’m happy to announce that we have a new translation out today (11 November)! It’s a book by the South Korean SF author Djuna titled Not Yet Gods, which was translated by Jihyun Park and myself, and published by Kaya Press.
It was a big project and we want to express our thanks for indispensable editorial help from Sunyoung Park, Ly Lan Dill, and Michael Ahn.
Jihyun and I been translating together for about a decade now, but this is our first book-length translation. It’s a banger! A near-future SF linked short story collection (of the sort that we used to call “mosaic novel” back in the day—do people still use that term?), it’s set in a post-apocalyptic Korea where kids start manifesting paranormal powers for (initially) mysterious reasons. The novel explores how this kind of change would impact South Korean society and the broader world, and manages to make some pretty astute observations about the real South Korea and the real broader world along the way. It’s also a book of remarkable scope, spanning a vast range of points of view and crossing a vast gulf of time. It’s unhinged, in a good way, and we are looking forward to more people enjoying it.
