   Nice to know someone else feels my pain. There are… um… five lying at my feet right now, with at least one flying around. I’ve had a few nights in the last week where I’ve gotten very little sleep, because as soon as I’d drift off, one would bite me, and then I’d wake up, wait around trying to kill it, kill it, drift off, and repeat the process. About a month ago there I killed more than ten in one night – though that doesn’t compare to my record of killing 43 in less than 2 hours at my cottage in northern Ontario (which was made more humourous by the fact that I was writing a letter (in which I complained about the mosquitos) when one of the 43 was swatted against my chest as it meandered about; it managed to survive and crawled up onto the letter, where a final slap left a stain upon the paper, which I pointed out and said, “See? I told you there were a lot of mosquitos!”)

   Yeah, I counted about 10 or 12 last night. I got two in one swat, even, on my elbow. It’s bloody annoying.

   If the cottage was by a lake in Ontario, I can understand — though 43 is a really crazy amount — but I’m in a city here… no standing water for a good distance in every direction, so it’s a little weird.

   Yeah, it was by a lake in northern Ontario. And I’m currently just a bit north of you, near Kimpo airport, where there’s also a lack of standing water. I didn’t get much sleep last night again due to the damn things. Sometimes I wish they were a little more resilient, like houseflies, so that your blow wouldn’t kill them and you could tear them limb from limb, but that’s just in my less charitable moments.

   Do you live in Bucheon near the university? There is still a bit of farmland off to the edges around Sosa and Yeokgok, and I remember driving with a friend up on the hills near there 5 years ago, and there were still farms up there back then – meaning there’s still likely enough forest areas to encourage a high mosquito population.

   Oh, I don’t know if you’ve seen this, but it’s pretty neat (I just discovered it a few weeks ago and have been meaning to blog on it, adding a bunch of my older photos).

   Bulgasari,

   Yeah, I suppose there are lots of trees around my place, but still… I was sure mosquitoes needed standing water to lay eggs. But yeah, near Yeokgok. I haven’t wandered much on the other side of the “mountain” but maybe theres farmland down there somewhere.

   By the way, no, I hadn’t seen the Bucheon pics. They’re neat. The streets look a lot tidier than they are now. (More plastic wrappers and other litter around these days.)
