If you didn’t already know, I’m part of the Brutal Rice Productions group. Actually, Brutal Rice is me and Miss Jiwaku. And we’re shooting a film next weekend.
Here’s the thing: We’re trying to make an outstanding Korean SF movie. There have been a couple of really good ones — The Host, Save the Green Planet — but…
… we want to make Korea’s first really amazing SF film.
And for that, we need your help.
We need extras of both sexes — male and female — for Sunday, December 2, in Bucheon City. We need as many people as we can get: if we don’t get enough people, we’re going to have to hire more, which will use up the money we had earmarked for post-production.
We put out a call last week, and got an okay response: about twenty people are coming. But we need more people. If you participate, you’ll be welcome at a party we’re hosting at my place after the shooting is done, with beer. Free beer, until the kegs run dry. We’ll order pizzas, too. And extras will eventually receive a copy of the film on DVD, as well!
We especially need Koreans — or anyone who can pass for Korean — as extras, but don’t get me wrong: we will find a use for you no matter what you look like!
There’s more information on the Brutal Rice Productions website. The English version of the information is here, and the Korean version is here.
If you can come, please do. We really, really need people, and it’s going to be a fun day. And whether you can or can’t come, please share this call for extras… maybe some of your friends might be interested in coming!

So, how did the weekend shooting go? Did you get enough extras?
Yeah, actually we had a great turnout, everyone was a good sport in the shooting (even when asked to do things that are frankly bananas) and some of the extras ended up being so outstanding they ended up becoming microcharacters of a sort. (This one ajumma beat the hell out of an alien-host-ajeoshi like a rockstar; she came up with a few people from Busan, which was pretty amazing in itself, that people came from that far!)
As for the shoot, I can say we learned a lot. Like, we needed a bigger crew, and shooting with large numbers of people is stressful, and all kinds of organizational and technical things. But anyway, it’s done, the files all backed up, and my brain is taking a few days off. (And Miss Jiwaku is already working on preproduction for another thing she needs to get shot in the next couple of weeks, tho for that at least she will have a full crew.)
