Over at Metroactive, there’s an interesting article on Undercover Marketing. I don’t know what I think about teenagers being hired to do this kind of work, to be honest. I have some qualms about whether they really understand what they’re involving themselves in. Then again, I don’t suppose most adults who do so really understand it either. In any case, it reminds me of the segment in the documentary The Corporation about undercover marketing, and I found it pretty interesting.
Of course, the net may seem unruly now, but once we have a working reputation system in place (something like what Orkut suggests is possible), I think problems of planted undercover marketers online might die away. I think.
