I didn’t even know such things were possible, let alone that they existed. But Centralia, Pennsylvania is a good example of a long-term underground mine fire. The pictures on this page are spooky enough, but you can also follow the links at the bottom of the page to find out more about the history of this fire. Quite the thing I was looking for to use in a short story I’m working on.
