Redrafts and Edits Galore

Finally getting some work done again. This is good — anything related to a recent publication seems to spur me to write or edit or send out more stuff, and not just to sit back and bask in the enjoyment. (But also, it’s my first totally free chunk of time in a while, and Lime’s busy so I can devote it mostly to writing.) In the last couple of days, I’ve variously tidied, redrafted chunks of, or edited the following pieces:

  • Realer (~9600 words)
  • Cai and Her Ten Thousand Husbands (~4250 words)
  • Lester Young and the Jupiter’s Moons’ Blues (now ~14500 words)

I actually did the latter two stories today, but mind you, that’s mostly from notes and editing marks made while traveling in Japan. (I didn’t do all the reading, editing, and thinking today, though certain parts of “Lester Young…” needed some very fine-tuned editing and rewriting.)

I also reworked the first scene of my brutal little Xmas story, “Solvjaynghi’s Christmas Wish” (~5000 words, currently ~4250 left to go), but I think I’m going to call it a day, since it’s been pretty productive. Time to do something else. I’m trying to catch up on magazine subscriptions I neglected over the last half of last semester and the summer holidays, especially working on reading untouched issues of Asimov’s at the moment. But more editing work looms over the horizon. Gaaaaah. Ah well, I have almost the whole of next week off due to Chuseok! (Whee!)
