Those of you paying attention to my progress bar might note a new project, in addition to all those that have been sitting almost-inert for weeks now. It’s titled “Ogallala”, and it’s a short story that I’m writing specifically to submit to the next edition of Tesseracts, which is being edited by Cory Doctorow and Holly Phillips this time around. I know there are better-paying markets, but I would just be happy to get onto a masthead with Cory, whose work I very much enjoy and respect, and it’d be cool to end up in a Canadian anthology. Families
Family. It boggles the mind. So this is my baby sister, who is 30 (she is 30 this year, I think, or is it 29?), and her little boy, Kinlay. The name’s a bit unusual, no? It was my father’s middle name, in the Scottish tradition where children take their mothers’ maiden names as their middle names. Helps keep track of who’s related to whom, I suppose. Changing Planes by Ursula K. Le Guin
This review is what I posted over at Allconsuming, where I track all my book-reading and other media consumption these days… Whatever you think of Le Guin’s other works (I must admit to only having read a few of them myself), Changing Planes is not one that changes the canon of SF/fantasy forever. However, it’s unreasonable to expect that of any writer’s every volume, and Le Guin has certainly earned her name elsewhere.
