There’s a pinkish beanbag chair thing in my apartment…

… but not for much longer. If anyone wants it, let me know. In a few days it goes back unto the outer world whence in came. I’m serious. But I’m not sending it out of country. Sorry… … oh, and if any would like my old ironing board, it’s still okay, it has legs even! But the legs are only a few inches long, which is why I had to finally break down and get a new one. They were driving me crazy, those tiny legs. Still, free is free, so if you want it… let me know.

Trippin’

Trippin’. I did that this weekend, in a few ways, though I don’t suppose I want to talk about all of them. (No, not tripped out, don’t worry, Mom.) The main sense was, well, going on a trip… again. This time, I went to Seoul. The first thing I did was to pay a visit to my new favorite travel agent, and pay him to get me a visa to reside in India for two months. I’m supposed to get that posted back to me with my tickets early next week. After that, I bought a second-hand flute to keep …

Boredom Flirtation

This article in The Onion hits the nail on the head when it comes to boredom flirtation: Sorta-Attractive Girl Half-Heartedly Hit On. It’s a dumb thing to do, but I remember having done it once or twice in the past. And it’s funny, when you put it this way… makes you realize that doing that is such a waste of time. Better to go off and find someone really worth the bother… :)

Tuin Jang Jjigae

I made the most beautiful fermented soybean soup last night. It doesn’t traditionally have mushrooms in it, but I added that, along with potatoes, peppers, onions, tofu, and garlic. And I found the secret to making it perfectly: I put way too much water in with the soybean paste, and then I boiled it for a long time until the soup was thick brown. Had it for breakfast. It was sooooooo good. Gorgeous! But now I’m hungry again.

Office Conversation

Nick’s telling us about a vodka drinking contest. 1 guy died, 3 more in intensive care. 1.5 L of vodka in 40 minutes is what killed the winner of the contest. Nick is wondering how his students will react to an article about this, so he asks our Korean co-worker about it: Nick: “Hey Cheol Seong, do Korean students have drinking contests often?” Cheol Seong: “Well, there’s no prize but their whole life is a kind of drinking contest.” Hahaha.

Where Is True Love?

That’s the question I asked an ajuma (a soccer mom) with a baby on her back, in the parking lot of HanShinKoa Apartments a few weeks ago. I’m writing it in English characters because Hangeul will look crazy on most peoples’ computers. But I want to post this story to my Korean blog soon. Gord: “Cham Sarang, eodisaeyo?” Ajuma: ??? (confused look, tinge of “is this idiot dangerous?”) Gord: ??? (reciprocally confused look, tinge of “dammit I need to start studying Korean again!”) Ajuma: “Moragoyo?” Gord: “Cham Sarang-i, eodisaeyo?” Ajuma: “Eongh?” Gord: (dawn of realization): “Cham Sarang Mateu-ga, eodisaeyo?” Ajuma: …

Gorgeous Chicken and Coconut Milk Curry. Thai Style.

Not this Thai… he’s my band’s drummer, not our cook. I’ve seen him roll cigarettes, but I’ve never seen him make a curry soup. I mean the other Thai, as in Thailand’s gorgeous cuisine. Mmmm. Having gone to E-Mart today, having read a couple of comments from a Thai reader (welcome to the eclexys readership, Lynn), and having recently written about wonderful foods I miss, I decided to have some Thai curry soup tonight. Now, it may not be authentic. I don’t know Thai food that well. I thought I knew Korean food but I’ve been told I don’t know …
