Welcome to the Bastion…

This entry is part 1 of 15 in the series Adventures in Bastion

So, I’m running an RPG for a couple of friends in the States (online, on Discord) who expressed interest in trying out an RPG. One of the players has done a little gaming; the other is a complete newbie. I decided to go with Electric Bastionland (or PDF here)because I was eager to try a system this stripped down and simplified. It seemed like a good introduction to the hobby, and has a setting that’s… well, different enough to sort of confound expectations.  Electric Bastionland is effectively the 2nd edition of Into the Odd; I never played ItO, but I …

A Visit to the New Guttershine Academy, Part 1

This entry is part 4 of 15 in the series Adventures in Bastion

Having escaped the Buttonsnemp Researchery with at least some amount valuable stuff last time, Nujanai, Fermi, and Emmeline decided to take the night to recover, burning almost the last of their monies on a room (but no food) to share with one another and Nujanai’s seven Mockery recruits.

A Visit to the New Guttershine Academy, Part 2

This entry is part 5 of 15 in the series Adventures in Bastion

When we last left off, it was 13:30 and the party was in the clutches of a celebrating band of Theorists, about to be inebrifixiated to large metal letters in the middle of the campus green. With approximately an hour until the gang from the front gate wake up and come looking for then, they were looking for a way to regain their freedom even while their captors poured tankard after tankard of ale down their throats. Fermi had stripped down to his birthday suit, torn out pages from The Chancer’s Guide to Dicing Dens and Gaming Hells of Bastion, …

A Visit to the New Guttershine Academy, Part 3

This entry is part 6 of 15 in the series Adventures in Bastion

When we last left off…it was 4:15 and our grubby heroes were standing before an automated kiosk (Kiosk 73) in Pintram Hall, a discouraging note typed onto ticket-tape in their hands, instructing them to insert a student identification card that they didn’t have.

A Visit to the New Guttershine Academy, Part 4

This entry is part 7 of 15 in the series Adventures in Bastion

When we last left off…it was around 5:45PM and our grubby heroes had made their way to what they thought would be Kiosk 63 on the 5th Floor of Pintram Hall, only to discover the Kiosk had been transferred to the 6th Floor of the enigmatic (i.e. unnamed) Building 8, and its former location converted to a public toilet. The group has been debating whether to make their way to the new location, gead to the library, or give up on ever claiming their earnings and leave campus…

A Visit to the New Guttershine Academy, Part 5

This entry is part 8 of 15 in the series Adventures in Bastion

When we last left off…it was around 6:45PM and our beleaguered heroes were split up: Heihachi had just been offered a job he couldn’t turn down (to assassinate Prof. Winslee) over in that building filled with reveling students, and was still intoxicated by some kind of alien smokeweed; Emmeline, Fermi, and the Mockeries were in a kiosk on the top floor of the Pestilentarium, the smell of smoke on the air and confronted by the pressing need to find a way to remove from the building a ledger chained to a desk within the kiosk, which they’d just been told …

A Visit to the New Guttershine Academy, Part 6

This entry is part 9 of 15 in the series Adventures in Bastion

When we last left off…it was around 8:00PM and our beleaguered heroes were inside the Grand Amphitheatre, in a side hallway with a gang of guard-students who’d just traded some of their ditch-urb to Emmeline for a top hat and sash. The group was considering how to get past them an into the theater at the end of the session.

Guttershine Beer Run, Part 1

This entry is part 10 of 15 in the series Adventures in Bastion

When we last left off… our protagonists had just escaped from the Grand Amphitheater on New Guttershine College campus, where they faced multiple Tintapans/Purple Sludges, and had somewhat hesitantly agreed to team up with Prof Winslee to stop Tintapan—er, the Tintapans—in exchange for a night’s sleep in the dormitories and some vaguely-hinted-at sinecure or post on campus that would wipe out their debt.  The session began after the departure of Winslee. The adventurers, being somewhat worse for wear, decided to go to the Campus Hospitaling Center to receive some medical treatment. There, they discovered that with medical treatment in Bastion, …
