I just got home from a trip with Lime. Though there were endless comments that made each of us laugh and laugh, strange situations including one of the worst dinners we’ve ever shared, and all kinds of funny things, I’m not gonna rehash a bunch of details here. I will tell one story, though. Unfortunately, it’s a story about something that upset Lime, but it’s also something I learned from, and learned about her from, so I’m going to tell it anyway. It was a rainy, cool day today, and we were wandering around this little tiny island outpost of …

The Origins of the Military Coup of 2012
Here’s a very interesting paper that Adam was linking to. And as Adam notes, it’s not an antimilitary statement as much as a statement about the bad things that can happen when a military is badly misused.
Med Students
I have met a number of Korean medical students here in Jeonbuk Province (for some reason, I keep meeting calligraphy majors, and med students) and I think a number of them really ought to be in other professions. What I mean is that I think a lot of them would be pursuing other professions, if those other professions became the most respected and lucrative possiblebecause that is what their mommies and daddies would tell them to do. Outside the library where Lime studies, she once pointed out the student parking to me. It was full of nice cars, driven by …
Hangeul problems, all of a sudden. Argh.
Gaaa. For some reason I can’t actually explain, the Korean in my web page is NOT working on the front page, but is working (or, before I began fiddling to find out what the problem was, at least, it was working) on the Individual Archive pages of my blog. Weird. I shall have to fiddle and figure it out. Ah well. Sorry for weird looking Hangeul on the front page. It’s typed correctly, it’s just not displaying right. Weird.

Another Project Done
Well, sort of. My part of it’s finished, anyway. Dabang’s new CD, titled Product, is now fully recorded. The last recording was made at sometime around 10pm last night, the last track being Seong Hwan’s bass line on the song “바” (“Ba”). The effects have all been applied, the funny stuff is all in there (wait till you hear Seong Hwan on “Taxi” and my freaky, angry/growly singing on “Got No Time” which Min Gyu approved in one take, telling me I sounded like Homer SimpsonI hope he was kidding!). Recording with these guys was great. The second time in …
If I Were A Muppet Secret
I don’t know how people keep coming up with such things. Cookie Monster’s Bulimia Nervosa Yes, cookies *are* good. But too much of anythingis never a good thing. Instead of bingeing andpurging, try to regulate your eating habits.Maybe instead of having two dozen cookies, youcould have two. Also, you should slow downyour eating. Chew each bite several timesbefore swallowing. Eating more slowly makes iteasier to tell when you are full. And don’tworry about body image–people love you justthe way you are, googly eyes and all. Here Doggie Doggie Doggie
I can’t remember if I’ve ever told my family in Canada that I’ve come to enjoy dog soup, but that is the first thing I thought of when I saw this poster. Found over at defectiveyeti, via kitta.
Yes, I’m The Man.
Whatever that means. I am happy to report, however, that tonight I’ve returned from Seoul with a great deal of my mission acocmplished. After about 6 hours in the studio (I miscalculated it earlier) it looks like I got all the tenor sax tracks for the new Dabang album recorded. In fact, aside from a voice track and a soprano line on one track, plus one sound effect to be applied on another track, I think I got seven of the eleven tracks completely done. Which, let me tell you, makes me proud. We only had to cheat once all …
Tonight
Besides a one-and-a-half hour practice session with the latest minidisc copy of what we’ve got recorded at the studio, tonight I met with Lime. She’s busy tomorrow night, though tomorrow’s a holiday all day for me… perhaps that’s a good thing, though, since I need to get a lot of practice in tomorrow: I head to the studio in Seoul, with Thai, on Wednesday, and have vague and faint hopes of finishing all my recording in one day, though I doubt it’s possible and won’t rush it. But it was good to see Lime again. We talked about my growing …
