A trackback is like an open door: it beckons, and when you walk through it, you find such a vast array of distractions and entertainments that you can easily spend an hour or two in rapt fascination. I am trying to consolidate my bloglines subscriptions these days, to reduce the number of subscriptions I have, because even though I read my subscriptions mainly in RSS-feed form, I still have over three hundred on my list and can’t keep up. But this morning, I rediscovered the joy of just wandering through a link, over to a bunch of other pages, and …

Now I Didn’t Expect This!
Take the quiz at dicepool.com via Marvin, who’s a mere d6, muhahaha.
The Indefatigable Mr. Sterling
Where does he get his energy? As usual, lots of fascinating stuff going on at Bruce Sterling’s Beyond the Beyond. Bruce explains what he’s doing hanging out with designers (and talks about his writing a little too); discusses the SXSW Conference and his new line of work; delivers some wonderful eye candy; brings up a controversial new Turkish SF novel about a war with America, and points at other works of war-SF; and gently brings the garage experimenters back to our attention. And if you look around, you’ll see all kinds of fascinating things his students have been designing for …
What Do You Give the Man Who’s Got Everything?
This one’s for you, Adam Lipscomb. What do you give the man who’s got everything? The answer’s really simple, I think, because, frankly, such a man probably doesn’t exist. For example, I don’t know anyone who knows how to build a guillotine. Though I can think of a few friends who would put one to extremely good use, given half a chance.
Hilarious
From Burningbird, a discussion about the new, controversial (?), proposed Google Autolink toolbar feature turns into a hilarious revelation of how men think about hyperlinks. (via Pharyngula)
Whasango
Lime knows me very well, and she outdid herself this year. She ordered something for my birthday, online, because all the shops seem to be going out of stock, and seeing as it wasn’t a popular movie in Korea, it probably soon will be permanently unavailable. I picked up a copy for Marvin in Chinatown, Toronto, but never got one for myself, and I love this movie. I don’t care how low it is in the opinions of most Koreans, or how confusing it sometimes is (as Marvin noted to me once before); I think Whasango (here’s a pretty balanced …
Christian Fundamentalists, Korean Communists…
What do the devout (fanatical?) Christian E. L. Bynum and Kimg Jong Il have in common? See for yourself. via a really funny article at Landover Baptist.

Oblique Strategies
As a birthday gift, the inimitable 강미 posted a link to this Oblique Strategies page. It’s all about Oblque Strategies, a kind of semi-random cardset that gives advice to people working on creative projects, meant to be used when one feels “stuck” or at some kind fo creative impasse. Thanks, Kangmi! Of course, the cardsets themselves are pricey, because they weren’t widely released and they now seem only to be available on ebay, at insane prices… but there are links on the page to an electronic version or two. The problem is, the scripts for the electronic versions don’t seem …
I’m Back With My Back
I decided I would find a physiotherapy clinic and go in today, since it’s possible (on a Saturday) and not expensive, and since my previous experience with physio was pretty good. Though it was a little difficult to find a clinic, some nice women at a pharmacy gave me the name of one, and some (very confusing) directions. I went completely in the wrong direction, and ended up getting in a cab, in pain, and begging him to call directory assistance and find out where the heck the place was. He seemed annoyed at first but finally was amused by …
