What’s this? Ah, yes, that’s what it is. It seems one of my molars just broke. Not terribly. I can’t even be sure it wasn’t capping or some such thing that broke off. But there’s tiny patch of white inner tooth revealed. Doesn’t hurt. Might wait till after my morning classes to drop by the dentist’s. Or I might go directly. Hmmm. UPDATE: Nope, this was a piece of real tooth surrounding a filling that snapped right off. And I wish it had come off in one piece, instead of fragmented, and that I hadn’t mistaken it for some spice …

Why Don’t They Just Get Another Apartment For Nights Like This?

The couple upstairs has finally stopped bickering, after almost two hours of thuds, screams, and hollering all audible through the thick layer of concrete above my ceiling and beneath their floor. I think they rode off on a single motorcycle. I tell you, when the church noises stop, the couple upstairs’ fights fill the silence. They both need to be slapped and reminded that other people live above, below, and beside them. Well, maybe they don’t need to be slapped. But slapping them would be a good emotional release for their neighbours, nonetheless.

Lunar New Year Reads, Book 28: The X President

Book #28: The X President, by Philip Baruth. You know, I’m crazy about time travel novels. There was a time when I hated them. No, wait, I despised and reviled them. And then I saw what Connie Willis did with the genre, in works like The Doomsday Book, and To Say Nothing of the Dog, and Fire Watch, and I changed my mind. Time travel stories, I decided, could be damned fine reading. It’s important I note that, before I discuss my dissatisfactions with this book, along with the things I liked.

The Geeky Things

I’ve had a couple of funny moments in the office this week. The other day, my co-worker Mike was ready to leave, and I was just checking what my at-work computer had downloaded. I expressed my trepidation about the fact that my ongoing Complete Wagner’s Ring Cycle Operas bittorrent downloads were frozen at 1 gigabyte, which means at about 70%.
