Woah! Okay, this was a shocker for me! This morning I got a notice from my website host noting that I am getting close to exceeding my monthly bandwidth. This is just from normal traffic, which I’m supposing means that I’m accumulating a stable of readers I don’t know about. Well, or something. Earlier in September, I got a spike in traffic, and my bandwidth was through the roof on that day. Now I KNOW that a link from a major blog would just kill my site in a day or two: well, or else I’d shell out big money …
Category: PERSONAL
Sign Up. Don’t Miss Out!
Blogs used to be fully public sites mainly for sharing links. Some people decided to bare it all, in public, and post everything and anything on their minds, in their lives, and so on. Well, people have gotten fired for this, in the past few years, though that doesn’t really worry me. And people get into social trouble for this, though that, too, doesn’t really worry me. What concerns me is really the function of MY blog. You see, sometimes it’s a diary. Sometimes it’s a pressure valve that lets me vent steam. Sometimes it’s my personal notebook, or a …
Hanaro? More Like HanaNO.
Argh! I am strongly considering changing Internet Service Providers. I feel like a fool paying each month and having–since the end of summer, basically–such poor-quality service. If anyone knows a really good ISP in Korea, and would like to recommend on, I’m all ears. Because, you know, when you use the internet everyday, and when you’re paying almost W40,000 a month (almost forty dollars) for internet service, you find it extremely frustrating to have your connection go down for, oh, half a day here and half a day there. This is what I’ve been experiencing lately. Now, the Hanaro staff …
From Harold Bloom’s The American Religion
I’m really quite enjoying this book, which you might find it strange to know I am reading as part of the research I’m doing for a neo-Cold War novel I’m writing set in America. Here are some of the interesting things that Bloom writes, which I feel are things I’ve tried to say in the past, but never got across quite as well as he did: “…the American religion, which is so prevalent among us, masks itself as Protestant Christianity yet has ceased to be Christian. It has kept the figure of Jesus, who is also the resurrected Jesus rather …
At Times Like This, One Wishes
I wanted to post this earlier today, but my connection was down and the file was set aside till now. This is me in one of those rare moments when one wishes that he were a prayin’ sort of man. Because there’s nothing much else I can do for my friends out in Texas. Hang tight, all you guys. I hope the best for you. Damn Rita, damn.
A Photo-Laden Day
It’s been a day of photographs. After I took a picture of my desk for a banner on another webpage I am currently designing, I copied a few more photos from my camera to my PC. I realized it’s been a long time since I’d done so, and some of the pics were really cool. I also got some pics in the mail over the last couple of days, and so for me, it’s been one of those days when photographs have afforded me a lot of happiness. Here are a few of them: Check Out The Hair
The Frustrations of the Switch
The frustrations of switching over to new blog software have finally kicked in, and I’ve now learned that I will simple have to start again with php and learn how to code things up with it, the way I learned with all those tags in Movable Type. I’m halfway to achieving my goal through template manipulations alone: that is, having a display of the last ten posts of one category show up not inline, but only in the sidebar. I have managed to suppress the posts from that category from the inline text — the main blog, I mean — …
What “Under Reconstruction” Means
Hey everyone. Be warned: I’m tinkering with this site, and features will be added and disappear and reappear differently. For example, I’ve implemented one plugin to make sidebar “asides” available, as you can see unde the “short, maybe not sweet” section of my sidebar. There’s an RSS feed, too. Thing is, the posts there aren’t included in my main content storage, so when I export my entries, I can’t export anything from the sidebar posts. So I’m probably going to rethink this and find a new way to implement it so that all the content is stored somewhere exportable. So …
Mike’s Busy These Days
My friend Mike is pretty busy these days, it seems. Readers in Toronto and Montreal might want to check out his show, though. He’s supposed to be one of the better young DJs in Canada. Wait, young? He’s my age. Whatever. He’s supposed to be good. Actually, well, last time I heard him, he was good. And yes, I could tell, even though the music wasn’t my kind of thing. September 22th – 25th Thursday, September 22nd TORONTO: @ Comfort Zone Hours: 12AM – 7AM Set Time: 3AM – 5AM (late night session for those anxious to get the weekend …
What’s This? Ah, Yes…
What’s this? Ah, yes, that’s what it is. It seems one of my molars just broke. Not terribly. I can’t even be sure it wasn’t capping or some such thing that broke off. But there’s tiny patch of white inner tooth revealed. Doesn’t hurt. Might wait till after my morning classes to drop by the dentist’s. Or I might go directly. Hmmm. UPDATE: Nope, this was a piece of real tooth surrounding a filling that snapped right off. And I wish it had come off in one piece, instead of fragmented, and that I hadn’t mistaken it for some spice …
