#dungeon23 Days 85-109: Harsh Fragment and Subsurface Refuge Complex N43A, Level 1
Time for another #dungeon23 post. This sums up two locales: a large moon fragment and the first floor of a subsurface refuge complex.
Time for another #dungeon23 post. This time, I detailed the ruins of a ghost town/palace containing the tomb of a local ruler, the enigmatic Khasha-Sha. Day 84 was yesterday, so I’m posting this today!
I spent my #dungeon23 time this past week detailing a trio of small, connected fragments of the broken moon. I like the challenge of designing interesting locales, one or two at a time, that are weird and unique enough to be interesting, malleable enough to work as SF or as science fantasy, and that fit together into a single milieu (albeit a kind of jigsaw setting).
This is another installment in my #dungeon23 project, updating my progress up to Day 65 of the project, which was Monday the 6th of March.
Though my recent posts are a testament to how busy I’ve been lately—and really, they just scratch the surface—I haven’t abandoned #dungeon23. Oh, no, I may have missed the odd day (and mostly caught up after, but sometimes just with a room and a word or two for a vague idea about what’s in it, but I’m still going. I just haven’t posted in a while because of the size of what I was keying. As you can see, it’s…. an underground complex. Well, mostly underground. If you were able to read the chickenscratch on my previous post, you’ll have …
The other day, I added a few assorted RPG-related items over on my itch.io page. The first two are individual scenarios for Epidiah Ravachol’s game Dread, and the third is a set of playbooks for Jason Morningstar’s Fiasco (classic edition, which is available here, among other places). The first Dread scenario is titled “Saigon Ex-Frat Apocalypse.” I wrote it in 2013. “Saigon Ex-Frat Apocalypse” is a scenario for Epidiah Ravachol’s storygame Dread (available here). It’s about expat dirtbags living in a shared house in downtown Saigon who wake up the day after a ridiculous party only to discover that something has gone horribly …
So, I’ve been ridiculously productive lately. I count the following: 4–5 separate projects related to RPGs, 3 related to music, and 1 short story I’ve started working on. I could probably go on at length about all of them, but I was urged to write about one of the RPG-related projects first, so that’s what I’m writing up. I play in a biweekly RPG group organized and run by Jeremy Tolbert. Lately, we’ve been playing Blades in the Dark. If you don’t know what that is, I’ll assume you’re not into RPGs, but just in case: imagine a steampunky London …
It seems like our son is getting into designing games. This isn’t so surprising: he loves playing games and anytime we introduce him to one, he gets right into it. IT was only a matter of time before he started hacking, modifying, and trying to build his own. In fact, the other day he actually sat down and spontaneously designed his first unique game: The other day, he spontaneously sat on the couch and, without a word about it to anyone, he designed a game—and I mean he designed it almost completely, from start to finish! Unsurprisingly, at least …
This post is part of a series detailing my participation in #dungeon23. Feel free to follow the link above to check out the series in order, or see the first post in the series if you don’t know what this project is. Days 10-20 were a bit of a challenge, mainly because our admins at work cheerfully made this week a hellish mess for anyone teaching a winter class. That is to say, this is rough, and yes, there were days when I jotted down a few days’ worth of entries to “catch up”; there were days where I got …
I have not much comment, but this song has been running through my mind since the news cycle started to cascade through the Discords and other social media I’m on: If you don’t know what I’m talking about, it’s elfgame stuff and you would probably know if you cared, but just in case, well, see here, I guess. Social media is on fire with memes and hot takes and links to thinkpieces about it, and I don’t need to add to that. But since I’m trying to start blogging again, okay, a few thoughts: I agree with everyone paying attention …
