Here are all those links I was looking for. Last night, Dabang Band opened (without me, due to my damned finger problem) for labelmates Zzam (which I think they’re translating as “Drowsy Music” in English though their name is just a stylized way of writing the verb “sleep” in Korean). Last Night’s Gig
Last night’s show was pretty good. We performed as part of the Dongmun Festival, which is some kind of animation and film festival. We saw the most unusual Korean and Japanese animations, including our band’s apparent favorite, Frank, about a psychotic dog who goes ballistic and even perhaps homicidal when his Hominid-dog friend gets too chatty with a frozen chicken. I want the guy who animated that film to do our next album’s cover art. As Myoung said, “There’s a little bit of Frank in everyone…” Hell, some days there’s a big fat Frank in my saxophone, even. Gigs
Right, here are our gigs, which I probably should have mentioned here before, but I haven’t had time. Tonight, which is Thursday night, at the new Jukebox club in Jeonju, at 9pm. And Sunday, at the Jeonju Natural Map, which is near the Gaeksa in downtown Jeonju at 7:30pm. We’re going to play loud. Do not be alarmed. Simply join us in rocking out. That is all.
Wow! We DO Rock?!?
Not bad for a bunch of ajeoshis. We placed 3rd in the local K-Rock Festival auditions, meaning our band will advance to the 2nd round, and play a song in Seoul in November, competing for a chance to play in the K-Rock festival in December. For having placed in the audition, I am told, we will get 500,000 won, which is about $600.00 Canadian. Band money exists again! Nice, as we’re talking about the next album already. And here I was thinking the heavy metal girls in the tight clothes jiggling their tender bits would be a shoe-in for prize …

Dabang Band – Bbang Club Show
Dabang Band is playing at Bbang Club in Seoul on Saturday Night. As usual I don’t know exact times, but I think you’ll want or need to be at the club by 8pm to see us play. Here’s a page about clubs in Shinchon. There’s a map on this page though I don’t know how useful it is. There’s also a phone number for the club, if you can call and speak in Korean: (82-2)-362-1089. Dabang Website Upgrade Completed
Well, almost, anyway. We still need Seong Hwan’s “bio” (questionnaire answers, that is) and a translation of all the bio stuff into Korean for the Korean pages. I got some translation help from two of my friends, Young Ja and Sang Joon, and did some of the translation myself (which means some of the Korean text will be pretty screwed up.) I’ve also added a bilingual Korean/English blog (hosted here on my webspace, because setup was easier) for the band, which takes some of the burden of updating off my shoulders.
