Last Night…

I found that I could not stop sneezing and sniffling and so I went home sick. Meaning that I decided it was bad enough to have had to eat cafeteria food yet again (cream soup; a horrid little tofu schnitzel—or that’s what we all guessed it might have been; kimchi; and rice). I decided I would not sleep in the dormitory last night, in the hell of off-and-on air-conditioning, in a bed which I found less comfortable even than the bus I rode southward on overnight in India last winter. I came home. I came home, took a shower, put …

The End of the Day, and End of the Day Thoughts

I wish I could upload some of the pics I got today. One kid wrote a comic book about me where I’m some kind of pig samurai with a flaming sword. Another girl bestowed me with a hilarious comic book after club time today. I got a few good pics of kids in my class too. Needing a shower, but that means going up to fifth floor because all the lower floors’ dorm rooms smell like kid-poop. It’s quite atrocious, actually: by mid-week the sit-down toilet stalls in all floors by second are taped shut to keep kids out; they …

Draft Work Coming Along, and HHGG teaser is out too. How Satisfying.

I’ve gotten most of my first draft (er, sort of second draft) done on the essay. I’s not really an essay as much as a pair of short opinion pieces by characters who really disagree. Anyway, the first one I wrote almost completely, and then I wrote a lot of the second one. Then I went back and rewrote the first one completely, and it’s a hell of a lot smoother, more believable, and stronger. Now I just need some time to rethink and rewrite the second opinion piece, and I will have that time tomorrow evening, given than I’m …

Today We Just Crossed The Halfway Point.

The halfway point in reference to this summer English camp I’m working at, that is. Teacher Leon pointed it out this morning. It was a nice thing to be reminded of, because I assure you I was absolutely exhausted. The day passed in a whirl of madness, including my clicking pics of a number of the kids in my class and other kids as well. I also snapped a few TAs and the odd teacher as well, but of course, having forgotten the cable that connects my camera to my PC, I can’t post the pics until next week. It …

Lime Pic, Camp Blather, and More

For those interested, there’s a new pic of Lime over at imagisme. Well, sort of. Half a Lime, anyway. While I’m at camp, I can’t see her, and I miss her. She started her, well, I-don’t-know-what-it’s-called-ship over at the University hospital today. Not an intern, she’s third-year and doing observations and dealing a little with patients. Anyway, I managed to call her too late, and she was already sleeping. Which I should be doing by now. The girls in my class here at camp have caught on to the idea of flattering me in the hope of getting extra stickers …

Why I’ve been so quiet.

I’m working at a summer camp here, and I have no net access in my dorm room. I seem to have gotten a bum room, or something. My computer, though, doesn’t actually seem to be working in any of the dorm rooms, though it connects to the LAN at the office just fine. So I am spending evenings trying to write my essay, and wondering if I might have email or comments on my blog, or whether anyone’s posted anything interesting lately. Of course, it probably could all be fixed in a flash if the gwalishil ajeoshi (the build security …

Shika Asked…

Someone named Shika asked me for info about the blog blockage and ways around it. I should mention that some of the blog blockage, if not all of it, is over. Let’s see: Blogspot pages are loading. Livejournal pages are loading. Mu.nu pages are loading. I think the blog blockage is actually over. Of course, to quote a Chinese dissident I read somewhere once, “You know that when they ‘loosen up’ it only means they can ‘tighten-up’ again when it suits them…” But for now, it doesn’t look like any blog blockage workaround tech is needed. Still, in case there …

A Brief Notice

I’m just about to get into the short job of packing for the week. I sure hope that there will be an internet connection and some kind of laundry facilities in the dormitory where I’ll be spending the next three work weeks, but in case there aren’t, I’m packing a bunch of clothes. Tomorrow morning, I start work on the camp. I was informed, of course not at the meeting on Monday, but rather late on Friday, that I’ll be required to live on campus. From the meeting five days earlier, I was under the impression that this was optional, …

If I Were A Villain

Been having fun passing a little time in the morning with my coffee over at Liquid Generation. I don’t know why, but it seems it takes me a little longer to get my brain started in the morning these days. Anyway, I took the Movie Villain quiz and I heartily concur: Oh yeah. I’m definitely Agent Smith. I mean, I would be. If I were a movie villain. And if I were a comic book hero? Uh, okay. Sure…
