Back Afloat

Well, this site is back up. I’ve changed servers, and I’m working on a makeover for the site, but it turns out I am a lot busier than I thought I’d be. So the total makeover will have to wait for a week or two, once I’ve created the dabang band holding page and gotten a fair bit of the rest of the dabang site ready for the launch (which will coincide with our 2nd album’s release). Then I hope to make this site look exquisite. But for now, it’s a default style with a few mods and some hunks …

Impending (Temporary) Silence

I would be lying if I said it was because I was busy these days. That’s not why I’m gonna be silent for a few days here. It’s not because I can’t think of anything to say, either. It’s because, believe it or not, I have a few important things to sort out with this website, and another website I need to start building. So until that stuff is sorted out, I’m gonna be silent, not posting anything new. In a week or so, eclexys should be back in full swing, and with a whole new look (I hope); until …

Crit on Geeks? Come Off It.

Sometimes I read articles where the logic is sloppy, but the intention is good, and I feel a kind of embarrassed solidarity with the author. However, , article, titled “The geek shall inherit the Earth”, is not only sloppy logically, but also seems to have an incomprehensible motivation. I’ll give its author, Sandy Starr, a few points because I essentially agree with her that while SF can address major issues, and in fact be art, a lot of SF is escapist trash. Hell, whenever I watch SF on TV it tends to be exactly that. Sometimes it can be vaguely …

Quotes from the weekend…

This weekend in Seoul, well, lots of things happened. Only the most important shall be noted, however. My baby, my first baby in the land of rock’n’roll, was finally recorded. That’s right, Deep End, my silly song about a foreigner taking swimming lessons at the Korean YMCA and finding himself head-over-heels infatuated with a lifeguard who speaks no English, has been recorded. We actually did quite well, making rather short work of it; I think everything was recorded within 3 takes except my solo, which took, I think, five tries to get exactly right. Still, the Cavare studio people all …

I can relate.

Have you ever looked at the Wherever You Are weblog? It’s worth reading. I do so every once in a while and I have a feeling the fellow who writes it would be one of those friends I hung out with a lot, and might slowly get over my uncomfortable feeling of inadequacy regarding, you know, having a friend who seems smarter than you, that kind of thing. Anyway, one of his recent posts was something I could really relate to. So I’m plunking a link down here.

Not Busy Busy

If I had more time, I’d tidy up my house, but I need to go to the bank to send money to Bulgaria. Why? I’ll explain another day. It’s only a little money, but I have to send it today. What else? Ah, pay some bills, I need to do that, and ask for my old phone account to be canceled and calls to the old number to be forwarded to my new number. I also need to find out how much it will cost for someone else to set up a new account on my old phone, because I’m …

Writing Class

I am just going through some of what my writing class handed me in as writing samples. I gave them three choices: they could describe the snowfall that had happened that day, the classroom we were in, or me. Some of the stuff was really good, and at the same time, some of it was quite funny. I was amused by a couple of samples in particular: “I think Gord’s charm is short hairs and [“chin beard”] and funny and blue eyes. Tomorrow is Gord’s birthday so his age is thirty-one. But Gord’s looks like twenty-nine. Gord’s cute guy when …

Post-Lunch Reflections

I think certain people need to shut up and listen before they open their mouths. I recommend this to people in a new situation: keep your cards to your chest and shut up, because you can’t know how your actions will affect others. I am glad that I have the sophomore law class that I have. They’re a cute bunch of good kids, they try in class, they were really responsive, and even the girl I mistook for a boy didn’t take offense. I mean, some of these girls are so skinny, with such boyish haircuts, that you just can’t …
