I haven’t mentioned it here — unlike on Facebook — but I have been hitting the gym for a little while lately. While, yes, the endorphins actually do kick in once I’ve been doing it a while, and yeah, I do feel a bit healthier after a few days of it, I’ll be really honest: I hate exercising. Everything about it: the sweatiness, the aches and pains, the irritation to my very vulnerable Achilles tendons, the bother of going and doing it, the guilt that kicks in at not doing it (and not having done it enough for most of …

Closer To the Mark
You know you’re getting closer to the mark when your story is rejected by the editor, at a magazine where I’ve only always been bounced by the Guardian at the Gates of Slush. It’s not a sale, but yeah, it was a rejection letter that made me smile. And no, I’m not posting it here.
Missed It?
If you missed it in the print edition, you can check out my Korean SF story “The Country of the Young” in the Fictionwise eMagazine edition of Interzone 219, available now.

The Man to See About a Cat
A friend of mine in grad school, when excusing himself to go to the men’s room, always said, “I gotta go see a man about a dog.” Well, I have cats, not a dog, but there comes a time when you have to see a man about a cat, too. Especially when it’s a boy cat, and the boy cat hits that age — roughly six months, roughly 4 kilograms in weight, when he starts spraying and longing to venture forth off your 3rd floor balcony and see what the neighborhood she-cats have to offer. (And by the way, when …
Super Expat Man
Ganked from an old post at Seoul Daddy. What can I say except it’s a stereotype for a reason? (Though there’s another stereotype lurking in there — the angry expat woman — which is also, well, a stereotype for a reason.) Or maybe archetype is the word I’m really thinking of? An archetype that gets taken up and roleplayed, in some cases? Hmm. Makes me think of Graham Greene novels, now…
Various Bitlets
I’m subscribed to a couple of hundred feeds over at Newsgator, but I have been seriously, seriously behind on nearly all of them — including the feeds of some close friends. I was just overwhelmed over the past year or so, and fell behind on everything. Anyway, in the past few days I chopped the items in the feeds from over 10,000 to just about 800 at present. That’s not bad, and I’m sure I’ll have to cull some more feeds and drop things I’m not reading, but if I can get it to 200-300 items a day, I’ll be …
Comments Fixed
Somehow, a plugin I hadn’t used in ages was still running and shut down readers’ ability to comment. I didn’t realize it until just now, because I’ve posted so little over the holiday, but if you tried to comment over the last week or so, and couldn’t, that’s why. By the way, I’ve posted more than it seems, but it’s not visible right now except on the Arr Ess Ess feed. For reasons which will be clear in a little while. Until then… stay warm, and enjoy your holidays if you have some!
Happy New Year!
I won’t be updating for a day or two more — I’ve been (and still am) ill enough to be taking medicine, though it’s nothing serious. But I do plan on posting year end stuff, just, er, late. For now, this is something to do if you’re feeling ill like me.
Grades All Entered…
I’ve been ill, and it didn’t occur to me that the office would be closed this afternoon on account of the fact that tonight is New Year’s Eve. So whileI generally managed to total up all my grades by early yesterday evening, I didn’t think to stop by the office until the afternoon. When I got a call at 12:30pm informing me that if I wanted to get help entering my grades, I’d better come to the office now, I hurried over, because we’re now using a new, and much more complicated system, and I didn’t want to mess things …
