Alexis’ post about going to Girouxville “to visit a local apiary and watch honey extraction” brought back some funny memories for me. I don’t think I’ve ever posted about that job experience in its entirety, and it’s interesting in a number of ways. Mostly in terms of the things I learned: If you’re not sure whether you’re asthmatic, a week working as a fieldhand will confirm or falsify the diagnosis. I was playing saxophone a lot then, and using my inaler not so often, so i didn’t consider my asthma so severe. But the first week on the job — …

What Brings You Here?
Right, so I’m doing the obligatory “what search keywords brought people here” list. Some of them are really pretty damned funny. The first list are understandable, even if they’re weird: korean dabang girls praying mantis eats hummingbird the punishment of plagiarism in government publication bulgogi seamus heaney viking dublin happy birthday song in korean words hwang sin hae band jjambbong gnome or ubuntu workout tracker tardigrade video altissimo register fingering chart for alto saxophone noh mu-hyun anti chrisian in korea canadian teachers in korea www.gordsellar.com With the exception of the last search — I can understand why searching my URL …
This Guy Looks So Much Like Me I’m A Little Freaked Out…
Poking about on LibraryThing, I found a link to this tutorial: A Poster Showing Every Book I’ve Ever Read. I’m not going to do that, it’d be too big. But the reason I’m linking is that THIS GUY LOOKS LIKE I DID AT HIS AGE. (Which he handily mentions in his post being 25.) Like, enough to weird me out. At least, the bit of his face visible in this shot: If he’s got a lazy eye, this guy’s gonna have to be my homey or something. (You know, people who have to be willing to defend one another in …
Welcome to Earth, Sam…
My sister Marie and her husband Troy just had their second baby, Sam, yesterday. (He was apparently somewhere around 9 pounds, healthy and all.) Between my two sisters that’s three boy children and no girls, and Lime said, “We should have a little girl.” My mother tried to call to let me know, but her “damn phone card” wasn’t working. Nor was mine, for that matter. Anyway, a big hand of congratulations to Marie, Troy, and Sam, who’s got a big crazy world to deal with, but hey, so do we all. Good luck, nephew. ;)
Random Bits From a Long Day
So, today I: was reassured not to worry about tinnitus that I wasn’t worrying about. had, I will actually admit, a song by a J-Rock band used in a mobile telephone commercial stuck in my head, enough even to download it. (5 points to the first person who can name the song.) got a (somewhat unsurprising, since it was a long shot) rejection letter from the Very Good Zine which is called Lady Churchill’s Rosebud Wristlet realized (horrors!) that I have exactly one story out at a market at the moment, and that one’s on hold. Must have a look …
Write-a-thon (Today, Writhe-a-thon) Countdown Continues: Thursday Update
Writhe-a-thon… it was a typo, but an accurate one considering how I felt today. I seem to have been food poisoned on Wednesday night. Something’s been messing with my system, making me feel cold when it’s hot, hot when it’s cold, making me sleep most of the day, making me feel dizzy and weak, and, of all things, making me pee a lot. (And no, it’s not diabetes.) We have a theory that it was either the food I picked up on the way home last night — Lime had a hankering for something she used to have when whe …
YoungRocco2 Rants
Oh good grief. A day later, I’m now, says YoungRocco2, who seems to think he knows me, a “hypocrite” (comment #56), and there’s a hundred comments in between that one and my response. Would be nice if I could thread this comment above, but whatever… YoungRocc2 wrote: Gordsellar: You’re a bit of hypocrite. In earlier posts you criticize Koreans for being too nationalistic–for being too concerned with Korean problems and not caring about other countries. Now, all of a sudden you change tacks and criticize these Korean missionaries for NOT focusing on problems at home, claiming that they should have …
Non-Write-a-Thon stuff…
Lately, my updates have all been write-a-thon related, so here’s something on a different tack altogether. I booked my tickets to Japan (but not to Russia — I’m considering using the trans-Siberian railway next summer instead, and seeing Vladivostok at that time instead, though I may take a brief jaunt up to Sakhalin Island from Hokkaido, if I can get the visa easily and things look doable. There’s a ferry, at least…). So instead of Far-Eastern Russia and Japan this summer, I’m going to do a little more time in Japan and spend the remainder probably here in Bucheon, reading, …
Canadian Ex-Defence Minister Says Alien Technology Gonna Save the World
Yes, really. A former Canadian defence minister says be believes advanced technology from extraterrestrial civilizations offers the best hope to “save our planet” from the perils of climate change. Which is a tremendous insult to all the people working in alternative energy, technology, science, research, for the environment, studying climate change, studying ecology, and to the mothers and fathers and spouses who tell one another and the kids to turn off the lights when they got to bed. What an embarrassment. (And yeah, I read this as a link from a story about Haut’s letter on Roswell, which actually hit …
Monohomouniwoori
My internet connection was blocked for half an hour today, which is, yes, a short time, but it was infuriating. It was infuriating because it happens every semester. The IT guys on on campus are always installing some new kind of “security” or “firewall” or “anti-virus” application. So for half an hour, the University server showed me this everytime I tried to connect to the Net. It was telling me that I could not access the Internet unless I installed something called InciterX. Of course, that’s some kind of Windows thing, but when I searched for informaiton on it on …
