It seems to me that Facebook is a rather amazing little bit of social software. It allows one to find one’s links to others across all kinds of boundaries — having lost touch, having dropped out of contact, having moved to a new place. However, the biggest limitation for a piece of software like this is that it’s monolingual. That means that many of my friends from Montreal, such as my francophone co-workers, are unlikely to enter into this particular social networking system. Those ex-students with whom I’m still in contact in Korea are also unlikely to do so, since, …

My Meez Me
Let’s say this is me teaching. Ganked from Tina’s post. More in the extended section of the post.
New Rotator Images
I’ve done up some new rotator images, and thought I’d retire the old ones for a while, so as to show off the new ones. Any favorites? (Hit reload to see a new one.)
My Daemon
All the cool kids are doing it. Okay, I haven’t read the copy of Northern Lights that’s been on my shelf over a year now, but, hey, this is interactive and cool. Your feedback will change the result of this quiz. Check it out (and ljers can do so here):

Should Study a Little More
Today I had a conversation with Lime’s mother, on the phone. Here’s a rendering of it, in English, though the original conversation was in Korean: Lime’s Mom: “Hello?” Me: “Hello?” Lime’s Mom: “Hi, Gord? This is Lime’s mother calling.” Me: “Hi. Yes. I’m knowing… er, I know.” Lime’s Mom: “How have you been?” Me: “Fine. How going it?” Lime’s Mom: “Fine, fine. But listen, I have some things to send to you. I wanted to confirm your address and get a phone number to put onto the package…” Me: “Um… phone number?” Lime’s Mom: “Yes. For the delivery guy, you …
All in a Day
I finished reading a really good book today. Happy happy. But you need to wait for my end-of-April reviews to hear more. I am finally deep into reworking my Korean superheroes story. So far, it’s just small edits and collating the comments from my crit group — the comments I happen to agree with, anyway — but much of tomorrow and Sunday will be taken up with shoulder/digital-grindstone interfacing. After that, we’ll see. I spent an hour this evening with a tiny class of mine, discussing the first page-and-a-half of the graphic novel V for Vendetta with my students, kind of …
Me Me Me Redux
Jade asked me these five questions: 1. You are a sci fi genre writer. How have you experienced being a sci fi writer in the realm of the (sometimes very snobby) creative writing world? Well, you know, that’s an interesting question. I’ve had all kinds of reactions to that. Some people go, “Oh, you write SF!” and they’re suddenly more comfortable, like, they don’t have to act all smart and fake around you. Other people get snotty and dismissive. Still others kind of try to connect by mentioning the SF they’ve read and enjoyed or not enjoyed, and often it …
Google Pic Meme Game
Pilfered (heh) from Nick Mamatas’s LJ, and following his variation on the rules: Plug your answers into Google Image and post pics. How hard can it be? The rule is actually to pick the first photo, but I just picked the first reasonably sized photo that wasn’t pornographic instead. I also chose the most interesting of the first two, because some of them really sucked. If you don’t like it, you can lick the insides of my shoes.
