LJ Crosspost Test

Testing, testing, 1, 2, 3… Earlier today, a discussion with my Clarion West classmate Maura reminded me that I still hadn’t set up the crossposting function that would copy my WordPress posts over to my LiveJournal. Would that LJ’s architecture were such that this weren’t necessary, but apparently, for the moment, it is if I want to see what comments LJ users are making, without forcing them to hop over to my blog. So I’ve installed a plugin to do just that. This means you can read my posts at three places now. On my site, on the LJ feed …

Me! Me! Me! (Meme!)

Ritu posted a meme where she answered five questions, and then invited others to ask her for five questions for them to answer. I asked for questions, and here they are: 1. How do you perceive yourself? Hmmm. What a terribly dangerous question. It’s dangerous because in some ways, I find I’m a tiny bit of a cipher to myself, if you know what I mean. I know how I feel about things, and what I think about things, but as far as how I perceive myself… well, my feeling now is, uh, keunyang, I guess? I am who I …

Friendly Spammers

You know someone’s not your friend when you mark incoming mail from them as spam without thinking about it, and have to use the undo link in Google. It’s a sad moment. You kind of find yourself wishing that instead of ignoring the flakey updates, you could just kind of opt out of tier 1 (every freaking update) and move yourself to tier 2 and get just the really big news. When I reached South Korea, I began doing what a lot of people do: I started sending mass email updates which were probably quite annoying after the first few, …

Ubuntu 6.10 on an HP dv2000 (dv 2024, actually)

The last week or so, I’ve been fine-tuning my current installation of Ubuntu 6.10 (Edgy Eft) on my new HP dv2024, which seems to be basically the same as any other HP dv2000. This is an overview of what I’ve gotten working, and how, and what I have left to test. Because I use Windows very occasionally, I maintain a dual boot system. Setting that up was easy, and since I’ve done it before, I didn’t need a walkthru. If you do, check out this video. The only thing they don’t get into is the specific setup I prefer, which …

Crazy Video

Okay, the Linux posting is a little delayed, but look at this goofy stuff! Julia got it from Adam. Like both of them, I am amused by the juxtaposition of uptight white 19th century musicals form and style (and visuals) with modern macho rap culture. Quite amusing, and I’m sure ‘d pay a decent sum of money at some point to see a musical of that sort in real production.

Sniffly, Snowy, All Installed

Today, for some reason, I got me a bad case of the sniffles. I think it was maybe a very brief early wake-up a few hours after I finally got to sleep. But it may have something to do with dust in the new apartment. I’ve been busy and haven’t done much sweeping or mopping since we moved in, and maybe there’s enough dust to set me off, since, on leaving the house, I suddenly was okay. Between the beginning of the first class of the day, and its end about 35 minutes later — it’s the first week and …

Arpy Berfdy To Me

I’m thirty-three today. Lots of lazing about, some chocolate ice cream cake, fiddling with computers, watching tons of Lost Season 2, an episode of Carnivale Season 2, some reading. No mountain hiking, as it was rainy and windy and nasty. And no Blade Runner, we ran out of time, but we’ll work it in sometime in the next week or so. Lime got me tickets to a Chick Corea & Gary Burton show next weekend. Which is very, very cool. :) And I continue to fiddle, backing up files on the PC Lime is inheriting from me. I wanted to …

Listen to My Compositions (If You Dare)

I’ve added some more recordings to the archive of all music I’ve participated in. The recordings that just became available to me are all from the period of 1995-96, which was my most prolific year of composing music during undergraduate music studies. There are five pieces: a bass clarinet duet, a piece for solo piano, a piece for electric guitar and harpsichord (with a title referring to the work of H.P. Lovecraft), and a couple of pieces for large ensemble. I’ll be working on getting more recordings of my work in the next year, but it’s come to my attention …

Gordon Sellar: This is Your Life! & A Rock Song About Max Planck

Long ago in a noosphere far, far away, I actually played the double bass in a kids’ orchestra, which was slightly humiliating since the lead violinists were 7 and 8 years old and I was in middle school. Anyway, I played double bass pretty good for someone who never quite learned to read the bass clef properly until later. (I knew that this dot on the staff meant that position on the fingerboard, or that alternate position, or even this third one, but I didn’t know what the name of the note was.) Maybe it was rebellion that led me …
