Maybe I’m just a hopeless gadgetgeek, but I want this Roll-Up Keyboard. From the list of weird keyboards Bruce Sterling linked to recently here.

Some ten things things
via Elizabeth Bear: ten things I am mostly ignorant about Japanese history. Microbiology. Truck and tractor pulls. Sub-Saharan African political geography. Modern visual art. Parenthood. Contemporary Mainstream Literature. Belgian cookery. The War of the Roses. What has been going on with Macs in the last ten years since I jumped ship. ten things I, like Clive Barker, don’t really know much about–but do know enough to get myself into trouble with: The Korean language. Wacky new cutting-edge physics. Raver culture. Central Asian political geography. Modernist poetry. Keeping a pet. The New Weird. The flashy side of Indian cooking. (I never …
Clarion Call, and Big News
Well, I made it. (edit: I made the application deadline, I mean. I won’t hear about whether I’ve been invited to the Workshop until sometime in late April or May.) When I thought I’d be doing a summer class, I put off the idea of applying at one of the Clarion workshops — Clarion or Clarion West — because I figured I could wait a year. I have been thinking about trying to attend a Clarion workshop for a long time, and for those of you who don’t know what it is, the best way I can sum it up …
See It, Make Your Own
Chevrolet was asking for mass sabotage when it created a make-your-own-ad page online for some silly contest. Here’s mine. Not the best I’ve seen, but I like it. Go see it — soon. Or make your own. UPDATE: It’ll probably be gone when I wake tomorrow morning, but I got screen shots. Heh. I’ll do ’em up and upload soon…
It’s Getting a Bit Ridiculous, and I’m Getting a Bit Used to It
I hate to be one of those typical annoyed foreigners who bitches and bitches about his inability to get a credit card in Korea, but good grief. A couple of places told me no right when I tried to apply, because I’m a foreigner. Okay, fine… Then I was allowed to apply at another place, and told I would be getting a card, and then I was told at the last minute that, oh, no, sorry, we can’t give you one and we can’t tell you why either. But then a friend of mine told me I could get one …
The Way Things Go and Come Around
At the end of high school, getting onto a bus with my first girlfriend, I was mistaken for a girl. Okay, it was a very old, blind bus driver; he had to be, as I never really did keep up with shaving in high school. But I guess this guy grew up in a time when long hair equalled girl, and that last year of high school, I had let my hair grow out. So he addressed us, collectively, as “young ladies”. I don’t know, maybe he knew what he was doing and did it just to insult me — …
Red Pen Machete
I spent a lot of time last weekend grading. Okay, not as much as I might have liked, but a lot nonetheless. I have read through, added comments, and graded the Mind Maps of the Advanced writing class, but not yet recorded the grades in my records. I have read through, added comments to, and sorted (but not assigned letter-grades) the Daytime Elementary Writing course’s Mind Maps. I have read through, added comments to, and sorted (but not assigned letter-grades) almost all of the Magazine Demographic/Advertising Analyses in my Media class. I have uploaded to a gallery, but not yet …
Wasting Away… Not Quite
Kat recently commented that she’s lost weight. Well, oddly enough, so have I. Lime commented on it the other day when she saw me wearing my very gaudy Ganesha t-shirt that I bought in Bangkok almost two months ago. She said, “When you tried that shirt on in the shop, it was a little to tight, but now it fits you pretty well.” It’s true. My suit jackets are a little looser, my belts are getting buckled one hole tighter, and my pants are still unwilling to stay at full mast — no longer is there the pinioning effect of …
It’s when you can’t call him anymore
I got home from class this morning and I felt like calling my dad just to chat, something I did occasionally though, unfortunately, not often enough over the years. Anyway, very much felt like calling him, but you know, I can’t. He’s not there. There’s no phone I can use to call him now. This is the thing I have to say about death at this point: it’s the strangest thing that’s ever happened in my life. You want to contact someone, to resume relations in the way that they were before, but it’s not just that you can’t, in …
Absolutely HAD It, I Tell You
I’ve had it with Windows. You see, the Compaq Presario laptop I bought less than a month ago, it’s fine. It’s a little short on RAM, but when I first bought it, it did a bang-up job on media. In the last couple of weeks, though, it’s been choking and sputtering, even on mere audio-CDs; and a long session online with a support tech has convinced me that, yeah, the hardware is working fine. If I do enough System Restores, the drive starts working again, just as if there was never anything wrong with it. The problem is not the …
