Lime’s words a few minutes ago, after checking her grades on the Medical Licensing Exam, were, “Oh my God!” or something close to that. For the record, she was bouncing around with a smile on her face, so I guess she meant it in a good way. Dr. Lee. She did it. :) (For those wishing to congratulate her, you could do it on her site or, well, she’ll see whatever people write here, too.)

Hellohellohellohellooooooooooooo.
Yeah, camp is wearing on me. Wait, I think it’s the accumulated effect of four full camps, with this one being the least-well-organized, that is wearing on me. Things like someone booking buses to the basketball game tonight for 6:00pm but not thinking to move dinnertime earlier than the usual 5:30pm. Things like nobody knowing where this or that thing is. Things like continual revision of exercises and activities ten minutes before they begin, after nobody showed any interest in revising them a month ahead of time. And yeah, though I’ve spent fewer nights in the dorm than last time …
Taxi Blues and Other Dabang News
Here’s some surprising news! Myoung Jae, with whom I used to play in the Dabang Band, informed me that a film that played at the Busan film festival, titled Taxi Blues, is being prepared for general release in Korea. The film features a snippet of the band’s performance of the original song “Taxi Blues” (one of Myoung’s babies) as well as having the whole song play over the closing credits. So anyone in Korea, if you want to see my OST debut — meaning the first and probably last time anything I’m involved in gets onto an OST — make …
Cab Thieves
NOTE: I posted this a while back, but it wasn’t published until a few days ago. The “today” mentioned is at least several weeks back. Lime and I were waiting for a cab today, and this twerp came after us, looked at us, and then positioned himself to catch anything that would be coming our way. When a cab pulled up, Lime hollered “Yaaa!” (Hey!) to him, to remind him we’d been waiting first. The word’s not the most polite thing, but on the scale of impoliteness it’s not anywhere near as bad as nabbing someone else’s cab. The bastard …
Vivid
I don’t know if it’s because of a change in sleep habits, but I’ve been having a lot of vivid dreams. Now, I’m told that I grind my teeth in my sleep, and if these dreams are any indication of my usual dreaming pattern, I can see why. I don’t remember any of my dreams usually, but these days they’re all semi-present when I awaken, and they’re definitely NOT pretty. The snippet I remember at this moment was being at a hospital. A bunch of orphaned Korean children had come through some kind of awfulness — I’m not sure whether …
Camp.
It’s kind of exhausting. That’s all.
English Camp Madness
It’s going, it’s going, it’s already been going for two days. That is to say, two days down and… ungh, I don’t want to think about how many more. Highlights: I woke up this morning in a dormitory room with no heat. The heat vent had been blowing tepid air when I went to bed at midnight, but even that cut out sometime in the night and I awoke in a strange bed to a freezing cold dorm room. It was extremely unpleasant, and I cannot imagine how it could happen that with 150 kids plus assorted teachers and teaching …
For members of the site…
I don’t usually make announcements like this, but members of my site who are reading by RSS may miss the notice that my most recently drafted short story is now available for preview download. I’d like feedback on it, so I’m mentioning it. And camp is now in full swing, which means this is all the time I have for today. Whee. Anyway, login and download my story if you like. PS: More good news, and a nice big piece or two of it, in a day or two.
Soul Competency
UPDATE (30 Oct. 2013): Cleaning up my database, deleting the tables for the plugin used to host this file, so, no more link. The story, incidentally, has been trunked, though I may try revise it eventually. UPDATE (2 January 2006, 12:30pm): The story is now attached. You may download it here! Writing Jesus of Nazareth as a character in one’s own story is, well, as you might imagine it’s ridiculously difficult. So of course, when drafting my most recent short story, “Soul Competency”, I found myself blocked at the point where the protagonist was about to meet Him. Yes, capital-H …
Failings
When you’re young, every small failure makes you feel as if you have been struck down. If you have fallen off your bicycle into the mud, you look around to see if anyone saw it happen. If you tripped on your own shoelace, your face goes red. If your failings are deeper than that as a child, heaven help you: you’re still glancing around months later to see if anyone is looking at you in the way you think you recognize, the way you fear because it makes you feel so incredibly small and awful. When you get older, you …
