Woot Canawr, Stage 1.

If you’ve seen that episode of The West Wing where Ceejay (C.J.?) visits the dentist, you know what’s going on. I got me a root canal today. Well, I got myself a part of one, anwyay: Yeah, baby. Stage 1 of my root canal. I’m not feeling pain yet, but I know I’m in for some tonight, baby. Stage 1 involved remving the gold filling, drilling down to the roots, and digging out the meat. The meat! I got these little glimpses of the implements used for the latter — they look like miniature pipe cleaners, or like the mouthpiece …

Found! Daily Pillbox

A while ago when I first started using hypertension meds, I went shopping for a “daily pillbox” — you know, those plastic thingies with a compartment for each day of the week, into which you can put the day’s pills so you don’t forget to take them. I searched for the damned thing, but the three or four pharmacies I tried all had the same answer: “Nope, never heard of that.” Finally, I just figured it was not something I could buy in Korea, and I’d have to just wait until I got to North America to buy one. Since Feb 27th

In the 27 days since Feb 27th, when I last saw my cardiologist, I have: … reduced my weight by 6.6 kilograms (though I’ve probably lost a little more fat, as it’s apparent, when I’m in short sleeves, that I’ve put on muscle mass). My current total is 103.4, as of yesterday morning. Even if I’m on diuretics (which speed up weight loss, but …

John W. Campbell Award for Best New Writer: Nominated!?!?!

Actually, I found out a few days ago, and believe you me, it was hard to keep it secret. But the Hugo and Campbell nominations have been announced now, so I can finally stop keeping it secret how honoured I am by my nomination for the Campbell Award 2009. I’m blown away. Thanks to all the people who saw fit to nominate me! It’s nice to see the competition there includes some familiar names, including fellow Canadian Tony Pi and the very impressive Aliette de Bodard. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to go and squee! until I’m red …

Weigh-in

UPDATE (20 March 2008): Yeah, figure I’d move the painful details behind a cut. Also, I pretty much fit into my size 38 jeans now… the ones I haven’t worn since 2004. (I knew keeping them was a good idea.) That’s down from a somewhat loose size 42 before, and I think another month of exercise and I’ll be able to buy jeans in Korea again, like I was able to do after a six or eight months of swimming every day. Holy crap, this exercise stuff really works! (Heh.) ORIGINAL POST: I don’t know how much I actually weigh …
