Camp is getting easier. Tomorrow’s cooking day, and our class is making nachoes. Thursday is Korea Day, meaning a game show in the afternoon and a Haunted House in the evening. But Friday is a field trip, though, and we actually have the weekend off this week. Whew. Blogging is at a standstill, anyway…

Raggedy
Well, the first week of camp mostly without a camp director is done, and I am exhausted. Okay, it’s not technically done, since four teachers are on-shift tomorrow morning, but it’s mainly done for me. I have the afternoon off and I’ll be needing it: I did a lot of camp direction work, as well as teaching my own class, for a week, and it has me worn down. I’ve learned a lot in the last week, mainly about how complicated it is to work with 120 human beings and how hard it is to be asked to call many …
Not SUCH A Geek After All
Not if being well-read counts as geekhood. I’m frankly unsurprised but now I want to go read three novels a day. Anyway: Interested Reader You have a Geek Lore rating of 67% Your knowledge of the speculative fiction field, while far from encyclopedic, is still solidly above average. You probably have a healthy interest in the field rather than a driving obsession; either that, or your memory’s just not what it’s cracked up to be… My test tracked 1 variable How you compared to other people your age and gender: You scored higher than 99% on Geek Lore Link: The …
Are You a Science-Fiction Scholar?
Feet on the ground, but reaching for the stars. You talk the talk, but would you know what to do in an alien invasion? You got 9/11 correct. That’s not bad, considering I don’t actually like Star Trek, Star Wars, and a lot of other stuff that the quiz’s author seems to consider SF. You can try the quiz here. I think I found it on Ritu’s page. Or somewhere she linked, anyway.
Wanna Kill an Hour?
Yes, yes, time is precious. But, for a little while, so is this game. Found on Typefiend’s livejournal, via Derek Kirk Kim’s wonderful website.
Note to all Entertainment Section Journalists:
Stop interviewing Tom Cruise. You’re just encouraging him. Please just ignore him and he’ll shut up. Don’t call him, don’t ask him questions, don’t treat anything he says as if it’s worth noting, because it’s rather worth nothing. Don’t talk to him. Cut him off, okay? That is, unless you’re got a plan to mock, humiliate, and refute him. Normal interviews are just encouraging him. And probably the mockeries will inflame him and thus encourage him too. And we’ve all seen just about enough of that nut.
The ongoing slowdown
Right. You probably have noticed my posting rate has slowed down some. I intend to keep that slowdown in effect, even though I’m back from my travels. I have far too many things to do to keep blogging as extensively as I had been doing earlier in the year. Most important now is getting my writing submitted to magazines and my novel edited and into the hands of an able, appropriate agent. And then there’s all the exercise I’ll need to do to get my health back up to where it was a year and a half ago. Plus, with …
Weird Trackback Spam
Okay, most of it is weird in that it links back to XXX/bestiality/enlarge-your-member-type sites, but seriously: I just deleted a bunch of trackback spam that didn’t connect to anywhere at all. All the links back looked as if they were connecting to sites on the same couple of servers, since the error messages looked were unique to the sites, and they looked pretty similar in a few cases. What would the point be of sending out trackback spam for pages or posts that don’t even exist? Pretty stupid… if you ask me.
The Visit
Well, I’ve been at my parents’ home for two weeks now. I won’t say my visit with my family has been easy all the way through, but I am finally glad I came home to see them. The arguments we’ve had have led us to a somewhat better understanding of one another, and led me to a better understanding of the value of acceptance of what you can and cannot do for other people. I’ve also seen my sisters and their husbands, and my dreadfully adorable nephew, photos of whom are soon forthcoming. He’s a great kid, tough as hammers …
On Family
I said I would post about my visit to my family, but I am putting it off until tomorrow. I will be able to upload a few pictures then, and be able to write more. My back is killing me, and I need to go do some stretches and relax. More tomorrow.
