Well, here’s the big news, for those of you who didn’t see a mass email from me: I have taken a department job over at Jeonju University. It begins at the end of August, so I will be on staff at Wonkwang until the mid-August holidays, and then I will begin over at Jeonju University at the end of August. For now, I’m just getting my head around the idea of the holidays I’ll be enjoying, and trying to make sure the paperwork gets done properly and quickly. Dabang Band – Bbang Club Show

Dabang Band is playing at Bbang Club in Seoul on Saturday Night. As usual I don’t know exact times, but I think you’ll want or need to be at the club by 8pm to see us play. Here’s a page about clubs in Shinchon. There’s a map on this page though I don’t know how useful it is. There’s also a phone number for the club, if you can call and speak in Korean: (82-2)-362-1089. One of my friends and my bandmate wrote a song about this recently. According to him, a wetland used by birds migrating from Russia to Australia is facing “development” on the order of being paved with concrete so that “love-hotels” (that is, by-the-hour sex hotels, not uncommon here as an escape from repressive home life) can be constructed. I’m collecting articles for students to debate about it with some information at their fingertips. Dreams

I’ve been sleeping longer hours these days, because of exhaustion. I was, for a time, extensively planning three classes and trying to get full handouts ready for a couple of those classes every day. (Things have chilled out considerably now that I’ve realized at least one class explicitly doesn’t want handouts.) There was actually a day where I was so damned tired that I started getting chest pains and slept 12 hours at night… and felt much better the next day, thank goodness.
