Just because I’ve tweeted it (in much shorter form) doesn’t mean I won’t blog it. I’ve been thinking a lot about my Dad lately. He passed away in 2006, and some of the stuff I’m working through now has brought up old memories that I’d forgotten. One of them occurred to me on the way home from the coffeeshop tonight. When I was in the Cub Scouts — well, actually, it was Beaver Scouts, to be technical — in La Ronge, Saskatchewan, my father taught us a Zulu War Dance. At least, that’s what he claimed it was. Knowing him, …

Home Again, Home Again
… jiggety jig. I was a busier this weekend than I have been in a while, in a social way. My friend James came up to Seoul and ended up crashing at my place in Bucheon on Friday night, and then on Saturday we headed into Seoul and met up with Roger Wellor Charles Montgomery and his lady (the BLF, as he calls her on his site), as well as the Korea/NZ scholar Stephen Epstein and a number of other interesting people. Now it’s Sunday, and I’m listening to the new Sofanauts podcast, which just came out the other day, …
Missed Call?
If you tried to call me just now? I dropped my phone while answering your call, and it shut off (because the battery is needing to be replaced.) I have no record of your call. Just in case. Try me again.
Weigh-in
UPDATE (20 March 2008): Yeah, figure I’d move the painful details behind a cut. Also, I pretty much fit into my size 38 jeans now… the ones I haven’t worn since 2004. (I knew keeping them was a good idea.) That’s down from a somewhat loose size 42 before, and I think another month of exercise and I’ll be able to buy jeans in Korea again, like I was able to do after a six or eight months of swimming every day. Holy crap, this exercise stuff really works! (Heh.) ORIGINAL POST: I don’t know how much I actually weigh …
Weekend Update
Well, I managed to work out on Saturday morning, before meeting up with my friend Mike from Jeonju. We hung out for the weekend: good food, lots of good conversation, a little beer. It was a pretty good weekend, and I’m feeling more settled for the week to come, though it will be hectic. I think the break I took today from exercise (beyond walking down to the station and walking home again later) was good for me, as my body seems to have recovered from the past two weeks of hard exercise, except for the pain in my abdominal …
Drive-By Update
Life is so utterly hectic that I’ve barely had time to relax, let alone write any of the posts I was planning to this week. However, I’ve now really gotten into the swing of this office hours thing. (Of course, so are my students — I had two visitors last week and appointments with two more this week — so we’ll see how far I get with getting anything else done here.) I was joking with the secretaries this afternoon that having office hours like this is a bit like prison: gotta do the time, after all, and all that’s …
A Hundred and What?
If you’re not interested in my exercise/weight-loss regimen, skip this post. Nothing to see. Move along. More content coming soon…. Otherwise, well, there’s a link for you to click to see the update.
Happy Birthday to G
Yes, March 4th was my birthday. I’m posting on the 5th, but only barely. I had no classes, but I hiked the mountain and the most entertaining moment was running into a crazy Christian lady who segued so suddenly to “Do you believe in Jesus? Believe in Jesus so you can go to Heaven!” than I was confused — I thought she was talking about art, as the Korean word for art sounds similar to how Koreans say the name “Jesus.” She thought I didn’t know who Jesus was, and immediately pantomimed the scouring, crown of thorns, and crucifixion. Finally, …
Got a Kick Out Of…
A few things I got a kick out of in the last few days: Seeing a drunken old man jogging in place on the express commuter train out of Seoul. He jogged for ten or fifteen minutes, stopped, rolled his head around for a while, then jogged some more. I seemed to be the only person taking any notice at all of his performance. It was amusing. Seeing my name on a few of the “Here’s who I nominated!” lists for the Hugos and Campbell Award. I didn’t see a lot of these, but I saw a few, which is …

Since picking up an iPod Touch, I’m now on Twitter. Just saying.
